MovingKnitter

Why moving knitter? Because it's me. :) Not only am I in the process of moving from California to Oklahoma, but I knit on the move in all kinds of places. I'll write about the knitting I do or want to do and the places as I knit in them.

Name:
Location: Lawton, Oklahoma, United States

I'm an ample in my mid 40s with 2 kids, both grown and on their own. My favorite list is ample-knitters! I've lived in 9 states so far and hope this move to our home state is the last one.I have 3 shih tzu's that are my kids. My husband is retired (again) and very mechanical.

Catching up - and a FO!

The start of the rains in Northern CA caught me by surprise. I spent way too much time getting the RV closed up and things moved away from the leak under the window. sigh. Course the window was right beside my bed where I store clothes, towels, etc.
Kept me too busy to post for a few days.

I spent the day getting the yarn I promised to send out found in the back of the store room we've rented as a staging area. As There's a whole large plastic tub going out after my unemployment check gets here so I have $$ for postage. Hate it when a "little" thing like $$ gets in the way of RAOK. Sending out the yarn also benefits me - it gives me one to put under the bed in the little travel trailer with my current projects. Wonder if my ball winder will fit... :)

Went to the store and spent a whole dollar on a pack of 2 yarn needles. Good use for all the change I've found as we've been packing.

Run's being himself - he squished and pulled apart the skein of Grignasco top print I brought in from stash to swatch for a cardigan. Going to design my own for the first time. I've seen parts of sweaters that I liked, but not a complete one. And he got a ball of Montera merino blend that I started a hat from. I'll get pictures as I go.

I have a FO! First one in a year! It's the red hat I started when I started the blog. I finally got speakers for the PC, and did it while listening to The Cat Who Robbed a Bank by Lillian Jackson Braun. Great series of mysteries - not to taxing when you want to relax and knit and listen, but they keep your interest.

I've tried to clean up the blog, but think I missed something. Anyone know how to get my entries back up the page? Help! If you have any suggestions please add them to the comments or email me! TIA

We'll see what happens

Spent the morning at the county social services office. Make too much on unemployment to get food stamps! Don't have enough to make ends meet even with everything paid off, and no credit cards. This is unbelievable. If you're homeless, they help, but if you're next door to it they won't. Seems they would 'cause it would cost them less..... grumble. OTOH, I took the plunge and am applying for SSI based on the depression. Just have to see. Worst they'll do is say no and I'll end up with another 2 or 3 month job. sigh.

I forgot about having to add another 14 rows to the hat before I started the decrease, so my brag was off. LOL I have those completed thanks to all the waiting this AM.

Tomorrow I work on packing as much of the RV as possible. Stuff we're not using, summer clothes etc. The Oct. rains are supposed to start early next week. Much too soon to suite me. Can't wait to make another trip back to OK and sun shine!

I'm looking for pink sock yarn or DK. Not neon or pastel, just a good solid pink. I want to make the ribbon socks for my sister-in-law to wear to chemo. She says her feet freeze when they give it to her.

I have about 30 skeins of Noro Oimichan to give away. I have 10 of the yellow colorway, 10 purple flecked with turquoise, and 10 turquoise flecked with purple. I'll post a pic as soon as I can get to the storage room. I got it from a friend who was destashing. I thought it would make a great quick sweather. But I'm too ample for that bulky a yarn. Sigh. Really love the colors. First one to comment that they'll take it can have it. Good way to see if anyone is reading this.

Busy Gal

Got lots done today on the web, at least. I've created a web ring for Oklahoma fiber folks. It's on the left column.

This, I hope will give us all a chance to get together or at least get to know each other through our sites.

Anyone good at creating a button or two for it?

Also, I created a bare bones web site on geocities. it's
http://www.geocities.com/castlebeads
I'll add more stuff there later in the week about my beadwork, knitting, and furkids

What else, oh yeah, on the trip to Santa Clara and back I finished the color portion of the red rollbrim cap. I'm proud of me! I didn't dream it would go so fast. Bet I get the decreases done tomorrow, since we're going to DHS to get foodstamps, Mike's Social Security started, etc.

And I installed a camera on my PC all by myself. Now I have to figure out how to get it to take single pictures instead of video capture.

Run decided the colored yarn was just thesoft thing for him to mouth today. Quite a soggy mess. Good thing it's superwash. sigh. He didn't chew it hard enough to break it, just enough to get it well sogged. At least it wasn't the end that I was knitting with. That's what I get for leaving the cap and them in the car together. But he was so cute with the red multi-color yarn hanging our of his mouth and the greatest "butter wouldn't melt in my mouth" expression that I couldn't be too mad, especially since he only sogged it. He only does this with all wool yarn. Guess he's a bit of a yarn snob too. LOL

Try it again

Something's weird with my computer or connection or maybe it's the moving grimlins. I've tried to post for the past several days and something keeps going wrong. Let's see, IE just closes or spews umpteen windows that show nothing then closes, or the connection drops (wonder if that's with fur kid help...) etc.

Anyway, to play catch up. We've found a group discount plan for insurance so we can now fill prescriptions. That's a relief with his heart meds and mine for depression/anxiety. I called Costco today and requested a refill on mine. Now to see if they get it right, quoted the right cost and if I can get in with out being a member to just go to the pharmacy, as I've been told. Got my fingers crossed!

Made progress on the hat while at the mandatory unemployment meeting on how to search for a job on the web. I'm now ready to start the color work.

In the packing, I found my Socks Soar on 2 Circs. ! Now I have the directions back for turning the heel and doing the gussets on a pair that's been in progress since I lost the book a year or so ago. LOL

We'll get enough money in 2 weeks to make another trip back to Lawton. Can't wait! This part of the bay area is getting worse and worse. I think the bad part of Oakland is trying to move in. sigh.

Does anyone know how to get my web rings etc. to show up on the sides of my entries? I'm getting this thing really messed up, I think.

Lodi, Santa Clara, and Back Again

Well, the apartment is packed and I'm out of it. Huge bunch of furniture went to Good Will, and a load of books to a local restaurant (Nick's) that keeps a used book collection that you can borrow from. Still have most of my clothes and leathers in my truck. My furkids are getting truck happy, but still would rather be with mom and dad than home by themselves.

On the way to Lodi the first time, I decided the cast on for the shawl just look horrendous. So I went to the frog pond while Mike drove. During the round trip, I had time to frog it, untangle the results, cast on again and knit 2 rows. Guess I'm finally getting faster.

I did 7 rows of the roll-up part of the hat on the trips to Santa Clara. Too tired and sore to work on it on the way back. I'm using 1 circular and it's working out well. Kinda like doing socks (giant ones) on 1 circ. LOL. Think I'll work on it on tomorrow's trip to the laundry and to Lodi again. Bet I at least get to the edge of the color section. :)
